Review: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX710 Laser
by Dennis KarakulkoNovember 14, 07 in Hardware, Reviews, Technology
Logitech has always lead keyboard-and-mice industry and had a strong presence in the hardware industry. For many years, I have been extremely satisfied with Logitech keyboards and mice. Wired, wireless, performance and ergonomics – Logitech has it all. Today, as a satisfied Wave keyboard owner, I will be checking out Cordless Desktop LX710.

Cordless Desktop LX710 set contains a wireless keyboard, a mouse and a USB Mini transceiver.
Mouse
The mouse has 4 standard buttons not including the click wheel with a tilt control. It is powered by two replaceable AA batteries. The four standard buttons are two standard right and left click buttons and two back and forward buttons. The back and forward buttons are located unusually on top of the mouse, right below the wheel. Rubber side grips allow for a tighter grip and firmer control. The battery life indicator is located on top of the mouse. It uses a high performance laser sensor instead of an optical one for pixel a perfect precision. Unlike MX Revolution or other mice alike, it does not have a docking station and is not rechargeable.
Keyboard
The keyboard, just like the mouse, is powered by two replaceable AA batteries. It has 21 programmable Hot-Keys. The hot-keys can be easily configured using the software that is included in the package. Since the keyboard is only around 6 inches tall, the function keys can be accessed with ease. Three-way adjustable tilt legs allow for adjustable hight for a personalized experience or style.
Overall
Logitech has always been known for producing well-designed, ergonomic keyboards and mice. I find the keyboard to be smooth, stylish and easily configurable. The mouse, however, has a different story. Since it is small, it does not fit comfortably in a palm of a hand and therefore can not be controlled for precision.
Is it worth it?
The LX710 can be found online for about $60 USD. The price is reasonable for a cordless keyboard and a mouse set. The keyboard is a choice for you if you check email, browse the web, chat on AIM and use Voice Over IP (VoIP). For anything more, I suggest Logitech Wave Keyboard. Let me know what you think.
