Today was my first day at Digital Life 2007. It started on Thursday, September 27th and runs through Sunday, September 30th (Happy Birthday me!). I was able to get my hands on Nero 8 Ultra Edition.

Nero 8 Ultra Edition LogoAs a long time Nero user, I was very exited to see what new features this release was bundled with. With Nero 7, I was able to rip non-copy protected CDs/DVDs, burn and create systematic backups of my files with ease.

Nero 8 provides a rich variety of applications to handle virtually any media related tasks. It features a redesigned SmartStart user interface, video optimization for social networking, Rich Preview and most importantly support for Blu-ray and HD DVDs.

With Nero 8, users can enjoy their content at home, on the go, and online. Yes, users can enjoy content online. It provides tools necessary to create and optimize videos for social networking sites like MySpace and YouTube. Although, I do not upload videos to any of these sites, I am very impressed by it. Reality is that most people do not know how to correctly optimize their videos. This feature allows just that.

Nero 8 Ultra EditionFor those of you who have already upgraded to Windows Vista, there is a Rich Preview tool. It allows for a quick video preview without opening Windows Media Player or other video playback tools. I find it very useful if there are a lot of videos in a single directory. However, I don’t know anyone who would hold hundreds of videos in a single directory. But for those who do have, it is a nice feature to have.

As a Web Developer, I am constantly making changes to my project files at home or on the go. With Nero BackItUp, I do not have to worry about losing my files to system corruptions. I set up automatic backups to back up my files to MyBook on a nightly basis.

Overall, Nero 8 Ultra Edition is the best tool for video and audio ripping, editing, burning and backing up. It is also THE tool for creating HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

Please tell us your thoughts about Nero 8.
